In Ashgabat, flowers were laid at the monument to the great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky on the occasion of his 204th birthday. The event was organized by the Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan and took place at the newly created Magtymguly Pyragy cultural and park complex.
The festive event was attended by employees of the Russian Embassy, teachers and students of the Turkmen-Russian Joint School named after A.S. Pushkin, as well as diplomats from the embassies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Palestine and other countries.
In his speech, the Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ivan Volynkin, noted that the first monument to Dostoevsky in Turkmenistan was unveiled last year in this complex, in the park of the famous poet and writer. "The monuments erected here symbolize friendship, brotherhood and good neighborly relations between peoples. This corresponds to the call of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, whose name is given to this place," the ambassador said in his speech.
Volynkin said that the Turkmen side's decision to erect a monument to Fyodor Dostoevsky reflects recognition of the enormous contribution of Russian literature to world culture.
The Russian diplomat expressed his sincere gratitude for the decision to immortalize the memory of Dostoevsky by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People's Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
