The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the Avaza Political Declaration
The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the "Avaza Political Declaration" resolution following the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which took place in Turkmenistan in August. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov announced this during a government meeting, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The resolution was adopted on October 14 at the 18th plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York with the co-sponsorship of a large number of states.
As noted, the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) was successfully held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in August of this year. Delegations from 104 countries and 46 international organizations visited the country to participate in the international forum.
The conference included six plenary sessions, five high-level roundtable discussions, seven high-level forums, and approximately 40 side events. These events addressed a wide range of issues related to the development of landlocked developing countries. Specifically, discussions focused on the development of science, education, and innovation, international trade, the creation of sustainable infrastructure, the fight against climate change, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the support of many UN member states for the Avaza Political Declaration, as well as the co-authorship of a large number of states, is a sign of great respect for Turkmenistan. The head of state emphasized that the efforts of permanently neutral Turkmenistan to maintain global peace and develop mutually beneficial relations are widely supported by the international community.
