Turkmenistan and the UAE signed a memorandum of cooperation in the railway sector

The Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan and the UAE-based company Etihad Rail signed a memorandum of understanding at the Global Rail international exhibition in Abu Dhabi. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan.

The document provides for the joint implementation of railway projects abroad, the exchange of experience between representatives of the railway authorities of the two countries, and the exploration of opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

A Turkmen delegation led by Minister of Railway Transport Mammet Akmammedov was on a working visit to the UAE to participate in the Global Rail exhibition and conference. The ministry presented its transport initiatives at the international projects pavilion.

UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei received the Turkmen delegation and noted the achievements of bilateral cooperation in the railway industry.

Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak announced that a working trip by company management to Turkmenistan is planned for the first half of October. He emphasized that Turkmen-UAE cooperation in the railway sector is developing rapidly.

The implementation of the memorandum will create the basis for developing cooperation between the railway departments of the two countries and attracting investment for the implementation of international projects.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, Minister Akmammedov met with Mohammed Ishaq Sahibzadeh, Deputy Minister of Public Works for Railway Transport of Afghanistan. The two sides discussed increasing freight turnover between the two countries and the progress of construction of a warehouse complex at the Turghundi station.

Particular attention was paid to the Turgundi-Herat railway project, which has humanitarian and strategic significance for providing food to millions of residents of the Afghan province of Herat, as well as for the development of the Central Asian transport system.

The Turkmen delegation also met with Deputy Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Rashed Mohammed Al Kaabi, who expressed his willingness to consider financing railway projects.
