Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the launch of the next stage of the TAPI gas pipeline to Herat
National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov launched the next stage of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
A new section of the gas pipeline will connect the Turkmen city of Serhetabat with the Afghan province of Herat. The project, called "Arkadagyň Ak ýoly," is part of the transnational TAPI gas pipeline.
The TAPI gas pipeline is a large-scale energy project that will connect Turkmenistan with Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. The Serhetabat-Herat section will be a key element of this transport infrastructure.
In September 2024, with the participation of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, the opening and construction of several major infrastructure projects took place on the Turkmen-Afghan border. The 177-meter railway bridge of the Serhetabat-Turgundi steel highway was commissioned. Construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section of the TAPI gas pipeline and the Serhetabat-Herat fiber-optic communication line began.A warehouse complex was also opened at the dry port of the Turgundi railway station, and construction began on the Turgundi-Sanabar section of the first phase of the Turgundi-Herat railway. Within the framework of the first phase of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line project, the Nur-el-Jahad power plant, located in the Afghan province of Herat, was commissioned.
